With the second part of The Lego Movie being out and a THIRD spin-off supposedly releasing this year I thought I'd make this thread. This has easily become one of my favorite movie franchises. And I know they may very well be long Lego commercials, but I don't care. They have such genuinely good stories combined with fantastic comedy that a lot of times I forget it's Lego.
See, I've never been like a huge FAN of the toy brand. Of course I liked Legos as a kid, who didn't? But it was never anything that stuck with me for long. I still like Legos okay, but they're not a priority or anything. I just find these movies genuinely enjoyable and that's why I like them.
My only complaint with the first movie, and the second which I will get into, is the way the Lego world works. In the first movie it's simple enough; everything is just happening in this kid's imagination as he's playing with Legos, but I also like to believe that these characters are still real in a universe of their own. Obviously, since Emmet moves in the real world. But then the second movie came and, oh boy... Well firstly, Emmet had to go through the magic portal to get to the real world, but in the second part, all it takes is just to fall on the floor... (Major spoilers ahead), Emmet just fell under the washing machines and then he suddenly saw the real world and his friends as toys. And then the same thing happens to past-Emmet, and Wyldstyle is just able to fly over there and help him, but when she did that, she wasn't incapable of movement nor could she SEE the real world like Rex did when he was under the washing machine, it's just... Space. Which doesn't add up.
But writing this I also remembered that she DID see the real world earlier in the movie, and even understood what was happening... God. All that said, it's a great film overall and I enjoyed it as much as the first. I found it neat how they incorperated the Lego Friends minifigures into the movie, even if I really hate the way those minifigures look. They just don't look like Lego. Sad that Bad Cop wasn't in it except for a cameo, and Vitruvius wasn't even mentioned as far as I can remember. I absolutely adored the twist that Emmet, although a different version of him, was the villain. And a lot of the songs got stuck in my head. Heh. One thing I wondered is why was Unikitty red throughout most of the movie? Last small comment I wanna make is, that "step on a Lego" joke was incredibly forced and awkwardly delivered. It was just cringy and annoying.
Batman and Ninjago are good movies, but I hardly know anything about Batman besides the basics such as his background and a few of his enemies. I've never seen a single Batman movie, so I don't think I enjoyed the movie as much as I could have, but I still loved it. Ninjago was... Not as great. Still good, not fantastic. I was a bit angry that my movie theatre wasn't showing Ninjago in English so I had to wait for it to be released for streaming. Bummer. I also don't know a bunch about the Ninjago property either but I don't think there's much to understand.
